So... Banksy set up a stall in New York's Central Park selling original, signed stencil artwork. But didn't tell anybody.

Vincent Ocasla spent four years running equations and cumputing on graph paper to build a totalitarian Sim City 3000 hellscape called Magnasanti. He grew a population of six million and maintained it for 50,000 in-game years. He claims to have beaten an otherwise unbeatable game. (Yes, yes, SimCity has no "winning" state... but as an analytical tool I've always seen the possibilities... and Vincent took the effort to explore the possibilities to their ultimate conclusion in totalitarian efficiency. Fantastic.)

On 27.11.2008 the Swiss Science Center Technorama opened a show that illustrates three characteristics of waves: wavelength, amplitude and frequency, using a 25-square-meter “magic carpet” that was made of more than 50,000 pieces. Here to the higher quality version. It was created by Reuben Margolin, and staff.

It's not very impressive until it really sinks in: this is not a computer-generated animation... this is an actual live show, on stage, for an audience.

As designboom puts it:

devorah sperber is a new york city based artist who recreates famous works of art using spools of thread. sperber treats the spools like pixels, recreating the works of da vinci, rembrandt and van gogh in detail. however viewers will not see the work until the move up close because most of her work is created upside down. the reason why the spools hang from the wall backwards is so that when reflected in a mirror or metal sphere, they will appear in the correct size and proportion. the reflection also shrinks the images and blends the spools together to create a more accurate representation of the original works.
